魏莱自幼与父亲魏兴相依为命。由于过度操劳，魏兴患上癌症。为了给父亲治病，魏莱找到离的开母亲林卉，但却受到了外公的阻止。后来魏兴去世，魏莱心有不甘，去到林卉家做起了护工。日渐相处，魏莱明白了母亲对自的爱，逐渐放下仇恨。但没想到自己也患上了癌症。Back Stage is a 1919 comedy, one of the last films that Buster Keaton would appear with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle before they went their separate ways, Keaton would get his own studio, and Arbuckle got into feature length films.
