故事改编自真实事件，讲述1999年，一个名叫JT LeRoy的变性男子以作家身份走红，后被揭发此人的形象其实是捏造出来的：所谓他写的书，其实是一个叫Laura Albert(邓恩饰演)的女人写的，而他出现在公众面前的形象，是一个叫Savannah Knoop的女人(斯图尔特饰演)扮演的。。乔治因无法控制说谎的冲动，已经在精神病院住了三年半，艾迪则是个同意以社区服务抵免牢狱之灾的职业骗徒，而帮助乔治重新适应社会便是艾迪社区服务的一部份。当有人将乔治误认为失踪的百万富翁时，原本一有机会便要甩掉乔治的艾迪立刻当机立断，决定利用这情况好大捞一笔；刚开始时，一切都进行得很顺利，然而命运之神却似乎另有打算……。Juan, a prison officer, silently observes the visit every Sunday of Berta, mother of one of the imates. The day he finally approaches her, he surprises himself by pretending to be another visiting father and inventing a daughter inside the jail: Josefina. The need to fill the vacuum of their lives prompts Juan and Berta to continue meeting outside the reality around them.。
