故事发生在解放战争时期，给地主胡四放牛的李小虎偶然时刻在山上解救两名我军侦察员。想去敌参谋长那里邀功的胡四得知情况，将小虎一顿打骂，小虎愤然离开胡家投奔了解放军。由于部队连日行军打仗，连长把小虎暂时寄养在保长周士贵家里。一天，周士贵宴请宾客，小虎帮着忙里忙外，不料上莱时发现请得竟然是胡四。胡四发现小虎大喜，他把小虎押往敌参谋长处，敌人对小虎用尽刑罚，逼他说出我部队的线索，小虎咬紧牙关一言不发。胡家丫头阿春是穷人家的孩子，她帮小虎逃离了虎口。后来在解放杨庄战斗中，我军活捉了敌参谋长，之后采用引蛇出洞之计生擒了胡四……。Set in the 1930's, this gangster spoof tells the comic tale of a Johnny Kelly (Michael Keaton) who is forced into a life of crime in order to pay for his ailing mother's medical treatment.
